Dizzee Rascal took an unexpected turn during the COVID-19 lockdown by
retraining as a plasterer.
The Mercury Prize-winning rapper shared with Fix Radio that, feeling the need to
stay productive during the pandemic, he enrolled in a City and Guilds Certificate
course in plastering.
“I did a plastering course for however long,” Dizzee said. “I got the certificate and
everything.”
Interestingly, it took several weeks for his fellow students to recognise him.
"Towards the end, there was a couple dudes, I've been with them for weeks. They
were like, ‘Hey, oh my God, it’s you!’" he recalled. "Right at the end is when they
clocked it.”
Dizzee returned to music at the end of 2024, releasing his surprise EP I Invented
Grime, just months after his eighth studio album, Don’t Take It Personal.
